ǿմý’s visual arts program is in the top 10% of programs in the state – again.

The has named ǿմý a District of Distinction for the fourth year in a row.

Linh Nguyen, ǿմý’s assistant director of fine arts – visual arts, called the honor a testament to the commitment and emphasis the district places on fine arts.

“This recognition reflects a district that believes that the arts are an essential part of well-rounded education,” Nguyen said. “Through the visual arts, we provide exceptional learning experiences that inspire and motivate students to be creative thinkers, develop their unique artistic voice, and pursue their own pathway.”

ǿմý is one of only 127 Texas districts – out of 1,200 eligible – that met the high standards to earn the prestigious honor from TAEA.

Achieving the honor speaks to the culture Nguyen and others have built over decades. It’s a culture that believes in the value of the arts for every student.

“A strong visual arts program provides students with an avenue and opportunity to think creatively, solve problems, communicate ideas through a visual language, and see the world through different perspectives,” Nguyen said. “Through visual arts, our students are able to take creative risks and are empowered to discover their own artistic voice.”

Nguyen’s leadership has been instrumental in setting the high bar for visual arts in ǿմý, but he credits the teachers for making art meaningful for students.

“I have the privilege and honor of working alongside an incredible group of art teachers,” Nguyen said. “They are the reason we are a District of Distinction. Their passion, dedication, and sense of purpose create meaningful opportunities for our students every day. Through their work, they provide students with a safe and welcoming space to create, take risks, express themselves, and belong to a true ‘Community of Artists.’”
